Tooth Coloured Filling
Why tooth-coloured filling is necessary ?
Filling or restoration is basically a process where a decayed part of the tooth is removed and is replaced by a material which is strong, sustainable to chewing forces, adaptable to the cavity and very importantly esthetically appealing. Tooth-coloured fillings are a good choice for people who prefer that their fillings look more natural. They provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small to midsize fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing. They can be used on either front or back teeth.
Are tooth-coloured fillings safer than silver fillings?
Both are considered safe, based on the most reliable and up-to-date scientific evidence. Still, tooth-coloured fillings do have some definite advantages. Not only do they blend in with your smile far better than “silver” (dental amalgam) fillings, but they often require less removal of healthy tooth structure. With a tooth-coloured filling, we need to only remove the decayed part of the tooth to place the filling.
Are there any disadvantages?
Yes, tooth-coloured fillings in a cavity of moderate to big size occasionally requires an additional crown for long term prognosis. Also being an advanced dental material, they are comparatively expensive to conventional fillings such as Silver amalgam.
