Tooth Bleaching/Whitening
What is Tooth Bleaching / Whitening?
Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.Because having whiter teeth has now become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten teeth.
Since tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to evaluate the replacement of any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth. Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up maybe needed every few months or years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea or wine.
What are the two options of Bleaching / Whitening?
In tooth-whitening, you’ve got two options:
- Office-based teeth bleaching
- Home-based teeth bleaching
Both tooth-whitening options use peroxide-based bleaching agents. At-home systems contain from 3% to 20% peroxide (carbamide or hydrogen peroxides). In-office systems contain from 15% to 43% peroxide. There are pros and cons to each option, but before you try at-home tooth-bleaching kits, be sure to talk to your dentist. In-office teeth whitening with your dentist will give comparatively better results as it’s monitored by the professional.
